Blue Mamba

Bizarre but very inspiring graphics.

There's something in there for everyone, it's in German, but I figured out part of it anyway.

In French. Gorgeous. Amazing use of good radiation, orante elements, and playing cards. Also, an odd combination of art nouveau and 70's retro, in a way that's really working for me!

antemeridiem design is a beautiful, clean, yet ornate site.

I loved the little addition of the working clock in the Occidental design.
There are 3 schemes to choose from, and you can even vote for your favorite.

I decided to come back here. I am going to try and keep the critique simple, and not try to guess if the website is trendy or not, just put up websites I like.

I like the way she incorporates a modern look with an old fashioned one, and just a touch of art deco with mostly late Victorian.

Since this is my header experimenting ground, here ya go!

I plan on building the look around this header. It may take me around 5-7 days to do so.

The fonts are Empirestate, and Chic Decay.

Interesting site

Lots of collage goodness. Lots of ideas.

The navigation is a little odd, and pop up boxes abound for the site--but it's worth it! Interesting variety, and lots of pretty.

You can take an hour sifting through this one!!

They are very protective of their property, witness the copyright with a warning that they take very seriously all copyright breeches.

However, excellent work, and an interesting horizontal scroll. Good mix of styles, very intricate and busy.

Ian James Cox

He's not finished with his "reboot"!! I love it. A placeholder or work in progress ? Is this 75% of his header, is it a sketch of an idea of what his new site will look like or...?

Of course, sometime in June he will be completing his site, so this is a time sensitive post.

Again, this seems to be in keeping with the rest of most of the latest designs- a faded, decontructed look, some minimalism, and some meta about process here.

I would look for some more meta about graphics process, and even more come around later in 2007 about the process of the business the site they design for. The design itself will somehow convey the process of music or plumbing or architecture. Look for some behind the scenes designs from now on.

Designinsane

This is graphics heavy, a gallery of design on one page.

The style is worn, edgy, torn, and evocative of 1950-1975 styles.

If you need some perk up in your idea-o-meter, this would be an excellent place to go!

This is where - in part - webdesign is going in the next 18 months.
Minimalism meets floral flourishes, and distressed look.

It means balancing the urge to be pretty! simple! designy!

This would be a great layout "inspiration" for LJ, and I'd love to see someone adapt it. I'd love to be able to have a border of my own patterning around content. You can do it sort of both Quite Lickaable and Flexible Squares without too much tweaking, but it would be a great feature to include in an LJ design.
But you can easily adapt it's basics- some florals or flourishes, some urban dirty, or distressed, or antiqued look, but with a minimal foundation.

I like the way he has incorporated darkness, greys, blacks, and white.

Another site for inspiration and trends [May. 3rd, 2007|10:10 pm]

Electric Pulp

This an extremely attractive web design showcase.
It gives a little designyness, a little business marketplaceyness.

The balance can say to everyone who visits, we can go designy, we can go very practical.

The "trends" seen here...
1. Minimalisation but use of texture, and distressed/ used up look.
2. Woodgrain, but here really well done.
3. Some nice hold overs from 2004-2006 styles.
4. It's very 2007-- and might look fresh into 2008.
5. Some of what they design uses the whole "big look" I see used a lot. Big images, big letters etc.

So the moral of the story, is ..why not pick what you like of styles from 2004-2006, mix them up, and see if you can get a balance between "haute design" and "practical commercial design". Might be a fairly excellent design, too!
